Massimo Bramandi was born in Naples in 1980. Passionately interested in the artistic world since childhood, thanks to his father Ciro Bramandi, art became a great passion for him. He enrolled at the “Liceo Artistico Statale di Porta Romana” in Florence and later continued his studies, graduating in Advertising Graphics, while continuing with his father to deepen his knowledge of painting theory and techniques. In 2005, he enrolled at the ALANUS UNIVERSITY OF ARTS AN SOCIAL SCIENCES in Bonn (Germany), attending the academy with a focus on sculpture and achieving excellent results.
During his time at university, he studied under professors such as Makoto Fujiwara and Andreas Kienlin, gaining in-depth knowledge of art theory and German philosophy, in particular anthroposophy and the Steinerian pedagogical method.
His research involves different artistic forms of expression: painting, graphics, video installations and sculpture, through the use of materials such as metal, stone and wood. His main focus is on Land Art. From 2006 to 2009, he worked with sculptor Marco Di Piazza as a collaborator and consultant on art projects at the sculpture workshop in Bonn and San Gimignano. In 2010, he held his solo exhibition at the Lu.C.A. Lounge Underground ‘La Maschera dell’Eroe’, curated by Maurizio Vanni and Antonio Parpinelli. Since 2010 he has been a member of the Society of Fine Arts Circolo degli Artisti “Casa di Dante” in Florence. In 2011, he held seminars on art at the LABA – Libera Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence. In 2012, he won the competition “AP Art UP- Gioventù creativa”, a project realised within the framework of Creatività Giovanile (Youth Creativity), promoted and supported by the Dipartimento della Gioventù – Presidenza del Consiglio dei Ministri (Department of Youth – Presidency of the Council of Ministers) and Anci – Associazione Nazionale Comuni Italiani (National Association of Italian Municipalities) in Ascoli Piceno. In 2013, he came up with the thought that art should return to being ‘shield and sword to face contemporary problems’, starting with the problem of employment, the real Italian emergency. This is the vision that has inspired the artist during the creation of “L’immagine riflessa” (The Reflected Image), a touring exhibition, displayed on its first stage in the halls of Palazzo Panciatichi in the Region of Tuscany, Florence, before continuing its journey to the Tuscan main towns. After the success of the touring exhibition “L’immagine Riflessa”, which lasted three years and reached 58,000 visitors, his works became part of the Regione Toscana’s permanent collection. Shortly afterwards, he was contacted by the Health Media Award to create the “Health Angel” steel sculpture that rewards the best achievements in the fields of health and communication.
2016 saw the birth of “Times Of Art” in collaboration with the well-known anthroposophical school Widar Schule in Bochum, a project with the collaboration of Silvia Terreni, which originates from the idea of addressing themes such as the historical research of artists from the past who have left an indelible mark on the history of our country. The course includes theoretical and practical lessons and an all-embracing approach to the art and culture of our country.
In 2017, Bramandi participated in the international contemporary art kermesse Arte Salerno, with his work ‘Gli Invisibili’, selected from the ‘L’Immagine Riflessa’ collection.
The event, which is under the artistic direction of Prof. Vittorio Sgarbi and the presidency of the jury by Prof. Daniele Radini Tedeschi, gives Bramandi the opportunity to be an exceptional guest at the 57th Venice Biennale on the Piano Nobile of Palazzo Albrizzi, home of the Guatemala National Pavilion curated by the critic Daniele Radini Tedeschi. Afterwards, Professor Vittorio Sgarbi decided to visit the Maestro at his studio and take care of Bramandi’s artwork and thus began an active collaboration.
In 2018, his steel sculpture “Health Angel” became the official Oscar for the Health Media Awards, an event that rewards the most outstanding national and international companies in the field of healthcare and communication.
Also in 2018, he opened the Bramandi Art House in Castelfiorentino, inaugurated by Professor Vittorio Sgarbi on the 7th of July, in which they announced to the public their several planned collaborations. First and foremost, the one that will see Bramandi in Milan with his personal exhibition curated by Professor Vittorio Sgarbi.
In 2019, he organises the ‘Leonardo Da Vinci’ International Prize in Florence at Palazzo Pegaso and Palazzo Bastogi, as artistic director in collaboration with the Region of Tuscany.
In 2020 he officially becomes a member of the Health Media Award as Art Director.
From this time onwards and throughout the pandemic emergency, Bramandi is particularly present and active internationally, in particular in Germany and Sweden, where he started collaborations such as with the Swedish director Peder Bjurman, the Sweden Queen’s Spokesperson and CEO of Swedish Care International Sophie Lu-Axelsson or the Consul Luis Cavalieri and the Mayor of Cologne, continuing the cooperation already started with the two previous Consuls of Bochum and Cologne, respectively Alfredo Casciello and Emilio Lolli.
